Can we keep Ofsted happy, and our teaching staff happy, and manage the performance of those teachers who need to get better at teaching? 

Teaching is sitting in a strange sort of crisis: life satisfaction is still higher in the teaching profession than in many other jobs, yet high numbers of teachers report that they are thinking about leaving the profession. This session reflects on the dissonance between well-established psychological theories of motivation and those approaches encouraged by government agencies and consultants.  What should we be doing instead
